Warren Reed Gronnel, age 79, of Mondovi, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2014 at Mayo Health System, Luther Campus.
He was born on October 15, 1934 in Astoria, OR to Rodney and Winema (Reed) Gronnel.
On April 30, 1976 Warren married Della Marie Young.
Warren honorably served his country from 1957 until his retirement and honorable discharge on November 30, 1977 as a member of the United States Army. During his military career, he participated in both the Korean and Vietnam wars, earning many citations and medals from the National Defense Service Medal; with several medals honoring his bravery during the Vietnam War. At his honorable discharge Warren earned the rank of Sergeant, 1st class.
Following discharge from active duty to the United States, He and his wife resided in Texas, then Astoria, OR and in 2003 moved to Mondovi.
Warren, a well accomplished mechanic, found his enjoyment fixing, repairing and tinkering with old and classic cars, with the VW beetles being his favorite.
Warren is survived by his wife of 38 years, Della of Mondovi; two step children, Teresa Schofield and her husband Lloyd and Michael Darbo and his wife Katie Barnes all of Mondovi; grandson, Brent Schofield and his wife Jessica; great grandchildren, Christopher and Amelia.
Preceding Warren in death were his parents and sister, Ann Kaul.
At Warren’s request, no formal services will be held.
