Walter Fluekiger, age 89, of Alma, passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at Mayo Health System, Eau Claire..
He was born on March 22, 1928, the son of the late Ernest and Della (Meier) Fluekiger.
In June of 1948, Walter was united in marriage to Avis Karrow at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pepin. To this union, one son, Larry was born.
Walter was employed by the US Army, Corp of Engineers for 29 years where his was Master lf the Derrick boat 767 before his retirement in July of 1974.
Walter was the very first life member of the Alma Rod and Gun club and donated his time and efforts in many different areas.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping along with gardening and making wood. In Walter’s later years, when he could no longer do the things he loved, he began to feed the rabbits, squirrels , birds, especially the cranes. This began his love of wildlife.
Walter will be sadly missed by his loving wife of the past 69 years, Avis; sisters in law, Delma (Wes) Mahlman, Evelyn Hall, Mary Weber and Janice Thompson; dear friends, Jerome and Karen Lisowski; nephews, Robert Parker, Lee Fluekiger and Norbert Dienger; Also by many good friends.
Besides his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his son, Larry; three brothers, Harry, Clarence and Raymond; sister, Esther Dienger, Hilda Klatt and Lilie Parker; brothers in law, George Hall, Olgar Thompson, and Joel Weber; and by sister and brother in law, Inez and Rodney Thoeny.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 6:00 PM at the Talbot Family Funeral Home, Alma Chapel with Pastor Lisa Weaver of Alma United Methodist church, officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.
A memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday from 3:00 PM until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
