Veryl Samuel Loewenhagen, Sr. age 89, of the Town of Montana, Buffalo County passed away on Friday, May 11, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Nursing Home.
He was born September 22, 1922 in Modena a son of the late Otto and Sarah (Wick) Loewenhagen.
Veryl honorably served his country during WW II as a member of the United States Army serving in the Military Police until his honorable discharge in 1947,
On April 3, 1946, Veryl was united in marriage to Vera C. Marty in Alma. To this union, 10 children were born. Vera preceded Veryl in death in 1997. Veryl was a longtime employee of Archer Daniels Midland in Winona.
Veryl was a member of both the Cochrane VFW, Post 10406 and the Forrest-Gundersen-Klevgard American Legion Post 264 in Gilmanton.
Veryl, for almost his whole life, enjoyed a day of fishing...even if he would fall in the water after slipping off the rocks. He also enjoyed playing cards, hunting and spending time with his grandchildren.
Veryl will be sadly missed by his daughters, Barbara Broberg of Hutchinson, MN, Bonnie Ottum of Durand, Charlene (Rocky) Klingel of Mondovi, Susan (Dan) Oldham of Winona, Judith Ann (Ron) Goeldner of Alma, Shelby (Kenneth) Brown of Casper, WY, Nancy (Gary) Jackson of West Salem; one son, Veryl (Christine M. ) Loewenhagen, Jr. of the Town of Montana; many loving and special grandchildren and great grandchildren; one sister Joanie(Gaylord) Lewis of Buffalo City and one brother, Martin “Chip” (Delores) Loewenhagen of Alma along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents and wife Vera, two sons, Arnie and Neil and four grandchildren preceded Veryl in death
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 16 at 11:00 AM a the Talbot Family Funeral Home, Alma Chapel with Thomas Elliott officiating. Burial, following cremation will be on Wednesday at 5:30 PM at Montana United Methodist Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 15 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again on Wednesday one hour prior to the service all at the funeral Home.
