Verna M. Zeichert

Verna Mary Zeichert, age 98, of Fountain City, WI passed away at Shelby Terrace Assisted Living in La Crosse, WI on March 2, 2024.

 She was born on May 30, 1925, near Alma, Wisconsin, at the home of her parents, George and Bertha (Hess) Kurth. Verna was the youngest of two children. She grew up on a dairy farm with her mother and only brother Alfred, until she met the love of her life and married Robert Zeichert of Fountain City on May 30, 1946, in a small ceremony at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Fountain City.  Robert and Verna had 70 years together until his death on October 31, 2016. They lived outside Fountain City, on Waumandee Creek Road, 

where they raised their four children.  Family and church were the foundation of their lives. Many neighbors admired her beautiful flower gardens who often stopped to chat and share stories.  Verna enjoyed vacationing with her husband to Arizona and Texas where they both loved time spent with special friends. 

Verna will be sadly missed by her many friends and family including her extended family at Shelby Terrace Assisted Living. She is survived by her three daughters, Diane (David) Glodowski, Donna (Raymond) Bronson, and Debra Bohlinger; nine grandchildren, Janelle Glodowski, Nicole Glodowski, Emily Glodowski, Elizabeth (Mathew) Guse, Theodore (Amanda) Glodowski, Scott (Laura) McFarlin, Michelle (Chris) Nelson, Wendy (John) Hedges, and Tanya (Jonathan) Moore; and five great grandchildren, Kailey, Barry, Garrett, Kayla, and Laura.

 Preceding Verna in death were her parents, son David, brother Alfred Kurth, grandson Christopher Bohlinger, and nephews, Henry “Jim” Zeichert and William “Bill” Baertsch.

 A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 11:00 AM at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, Fountain City, WI, with Pastor Westenberg officiating. Burial will be at the Herold Cemetery in rural Alma. A time of visitation and sharing memories will be held at the church on Saturday one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, 38 Second Street, Fountain City, WI 54629.
