On February 26, 2024, our mom Sue died peacefully in her sleep knowing how much her friends and family loved her. Susan Dawn (Kringle) Iverson lived 76 years faithfully serving her loved ones, church, and community. Though she will be dearly missed in this world, her strong faith in Christ gave her peace.
Sue was born on January 9, 1948 in Rice Lake, WI, the first of Harold and Caryl Kringle’s children. She had fond memories growing up in Barron on the Yule Lane Farm with her brothers, Bruce and Brian. Sue was very active in 4H with Guernsey Cattle, Sewing, and Foods; achieving Fairest of The Fair and the Wisconsin Key Award. Sue met John Iverson while they attended UW-Stout in Menomonie. While stories differ on how they officially became a couple, on August 15, 1970 they were married at First Lutheran Church in Barron. After a time in Menomonie, where their sons, Mark Walter, Eric John, and Scot Michael were born, they moved to the rural Mondovi area where they built a home and she spent the remainder of her life.
After 10 years of raising her boys full time, Naples Novelty 4H Club co-leadership, and a few part-time jobs, Sue pioneered a much-needed preschool in the area. Initially teaching from her home and Eleva Lutheran Church, she built and grew Little Hands of Joy at Central Lutheran church in Mondovi. Using her Early Childhood Education degree from Stout, her teaching career spanned 16 years and touched the lives of almost 300 students. She took great pleasure keeping up with many of those students as they grew and started families of their own within and outside the community.
In 2001, Sue became a grandmother. Always a caring, involved mother, Sue dove head first into grandma mode. With 7 grandkids in 7 years, her calendar and heart were full. She tackled her new role with love and a heavy dose of humor keeping all of her grandkids on their toes even through adulthood. Their memories of helping at the Christmas tree farm every year and her annual Easter egg hunts will live forever. One grandchild said it best by saying, “I’ll miss your fruit jello, homemade cookies, rare hugs and quiet I love you’s.” She leaves behind a beautiful family legacy.
In Sue’s retirement, she remained dedicated to the Mondovi community and Central Lutheran church. She volunteered as a mentor at the elementary school and was active in the local Garden Club for years. She also served as a loyal CLCW member, Sunday School Superintendent and as a project supervisor at the Buffalo County fair. Sue and John raised and provided thousands of Christmas trees and hundreds of wreaths (that she made) to the community through their farm, Iverson Trees, for 32 years. Her selfless desire to help her community ran deep and was widely recognized.
Sue is survived by her husband, John, her children, Mark (Gretchen), Eric (Kayna), Scot (Heather), grandchildren, Daikon, Alyssa, Annabelle, Brett, Avery, Sydney, and Thomas. Brothers, Bruce (Mary Lou), Brian (Wanda), Brother in-law, Randy, along with many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Caryl Kringle.
A memorial service will be held at 12PM on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Central Lutheran church in Mondovi. A visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 10AM, also at Central. There will be a light lunch served by the CLCW after the service.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Central Lutheran Church Women or the Mondovi Garden Club, in Sue’s memory.
We love you mom.
