Sonja M. Fernholz

Sonja M. Fernholz, age 62, of Hager City, WI passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 5th, 2021.
She was born in Winona, MN on September 4, 1958 and attended K-12 school at Alma Area Schools. She married Stephen Fernholz on November 29, 1975 in Alma, WI. They purchased the Alma Hotel in 1979 where they continued the family business for 20 years. Sonja was best known for her home cooking, award winning apple pie, great customer service, and willingness to always go the extra mile for people needing help. After 20 years, Sonja and Steve sold the Alma Hotel and she spent the next 21 years working at Treasure Island Resort & Casino. During her time at the casino she spent most of her time as a slot supervisor and later moved to a casino host where she was in her element laughing, joking, helping guests, and getting to know each person she came in contact with.
Sonja’s passions were visiting with friends, helping others, and spending time with family and grand dog Cooper. She loved to look up new recipes, make new dishes, desserts, and canned goods. Her greatest joy was her son Daniel who she was proud of and loved deeply.
Sonja was a loving wife, mom, mother-in-law, aunt, sister, and friend. Her radiant smile, big laugh and welcoming presence will be missed by many.
Sonja is survived by her husband Stephen and son Daniel (Jennifer) Fernholz, sisters Betty (Glen) Corum, Marlet (David) Berg, brothers Orlyn (Karla) Hoksch, Daryl (Cheryl) Hoksch, and brother-in-law Allan Wick. She is preceded in death by Eileen & Ewald Hoksch, Ardys (Loren) Fimian, and Sharon Wick.
The family will be having private arrangements. We would like to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers.
