Sally Ann Gjerdahl-Dregney, age 72, of Mondovi, WI passed away on Monday, August 27, 2012 at her home with her loving husband and family at her side.
She was born on January 24, 1940 in Eau Galle, WI a daughter of the late Jacob and Isabelle (Kahabka) Helmueller. Sally, after moving to South St. Paul, attended and graduated from South St. Paul High School. Before relocating to Mondovi, Sally was employed at Simley High School -Inver Grove Heights Community Schools. She then started a career in the trucking industry, working for American Truck Dispatch in Eagan, MN. Her career in dispatch trucking continued in Mondovi with Allied Truck Dispatch, working here until her retirement. It was Walter Dregney that ultimately brought Sally to Mondovi taking her hand in marriage on November 7, 1981 at Central Lutheran Church. Sally will be remembered for her vast array of hobbies, some of which included training police dogs at the Obedience Training Center in the Twin Cities, snow mobiling, motorcycling and being a longtime member of the Midnight Riders in Mondovi. Sally's most memorable and rewarding contribution was her devotion as a foster parent; providing guidance and love to more than 138 children spanning over a 30 year period. Sally’s family left to cherish her memory are her husband Walter; children June (Sam) Hicks, Ray Gjerdahl, Jane (Mark) Jenson and Dawn Dregney; six grandchildren Tracey, Tara, Leonda, Courtney, Mallory and Gabe; great-grandchildren Samantha, Abbigail, Bryce, and Lilly; sisters, Laurie Jo (Bill) Morrison and Julie (Gary) Schladweiler; brother Jerry (laurie) Helmueller; sister in law Wilma (Ken) Borgwardt; and brother-in-law Virgil Borgwardt, also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding Sally in death were her parents, sister, Katheryn Kane, parents in law Oscar and Sena Dregney and sister in law, Lois Borgwardt.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 31 at 11:00 AM at Central Lutheran Church, Mondovi with Pastor Rolf Morck officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 30 from 4:00- 7:00 PM at the Poeschel-Talbot Funeral Home of Mondovi and again on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
