Rose Mary Martzke, age 82 of Alma, passed away on Monday February 2, 2015 at St. Elizabeth Health Care Center, Wabasha, MN with her husband Vern by her side. She was born on February 21, 1932 in Oconto Falls, WI a daughter of Dr. William T. and Muriel (Coopman) Hicks. Rose Mary attended and graduated from Gillett High School located in Gillett, WI. She then furthered her education at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh earning her degree in kindergarten/Primary education. Rose Mary was united in marriage to Vernon Victor Martzke on August 22, 1953.
Rose Mary’s career in education began in Oconto, WI and then Portage, WI before moving to Alma, WI in 1962 where she would do substitute teaching at the Alma Area Schools. Rose was also active at St. John Lutheran Church Sunday School and WELCA, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Buffalo County Food Pantry.
Rose Mary will be dearly missed by her husband, Vernon, of Alma; children, Doug and his wife Mary Kaye Martzke, Kristin and her husband Brent Schneider, Dr. Jeffrey Martzke and his fiancé Nikki Pelletier, Lisa Goeppinger; her brother, Robert Hicks; grandchildren, Erica (Jonathan) Novak, Brandon (Lindsey) Martzke, Ryan Schneider, Jason Schneider, Amelia Martzke, Willem Martzke, Emily Goeppinger and Mariah Goeppinger; great grandchildren, Carter and Emmett Novak and Eve Martzke.
Besides her parents, Rose Mary was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Hicks.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 6, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church of Alma with Pastor Joel Bacon officiating. Burial will be at St. Jakobi Lutheran Cemetery in Shawano, WI. Visitation will be held on Thursday February 5 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again on Friday from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service all at the church. The family requests memorials in honor of Rose, to be given to Luther Park Bible Camp in Chetek, WI.
