Roger William “Hum” Dienger, age 83, of Alma, WI passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at the Oak View Care Center, Durand, WI. Roger was born on April 20, 1930 in Alma to William and Irma (Gross) Dienger. Roger attended Alma Schools, graduating with the Alma High School class of 1948. Roger went on to serve and protect our Country as a member of the United States Army. In May of 1954 Roger was united in marriage to Anna Mueller in Alma, and to this union they were blessed with four children. Hum, along with his wife farmed for many years in rural Alma. Anna passed away on January 29, 1969. In the mid 1980’s Hum sold the farm and began working at the Plainview Canning Factory. Several years later, he started a career with the La Crosse Milling Company in Cochrane, retiring in July of 1996. Hum was an avid card player and would take occasional trips to the casino. His family will remember his love of dancing, and as kids, taking them for their Sunday fishing trips on the river. He will be mostly remembered for his work ethic and his love for his family. Hum will sadly missed by his children Kathy (Lun) Nguyen of Winona; Gary (Lila) Dienger of Blaine, MN, and Steve (MaryBeth) Dienger of Winona; grandchildren Michael and Matthew Nguyen; Christopher and Craig Dienger, Nichole Metcalf, Shannon Garcia, Kayla Lundgren, and Thomas and Justin Dienger; several great grandchildren; also by nieces, nephews and friends. Hum was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Anna; his son Dale Dienger; long time special companion Lois Nerby, and three brothers Robert, Richard and David.
A visitation and funeral service will be at the Talbot Family Funeral Home, Alma Chapel on Monday, March 3 at 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00AM with Rev. Michael Vetsch, Pastor of Lyster Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at Alma Public Cemetery at a later date.
