Richard Lowell Seiberling, age 81, died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Wabasha, MN.
Lowell was born to Richard Charles and Eva Marie (Tucker) Seiberling on May 23, 1935 in Colfax, IA. He was a graduate of Nora Springs, IA High School where he discovered and continued to explore his love of farming. Lowell married Betty Thietje on March 20, 1958. Lowell spent his lifetime farming. Lowell and Betty moved, along with their three daughters, to Alma, WI in the spring of 1974.
While engaged in his love of farming, Lowell and Betty shared many farm duties. They milked and farmed the land together in addition he was always available to help out a neighbor during harvest and planting season. Upon selling their dairy herd they went into semi-retirement while tending to a herd of Angus cross beef cattle. They continued to farm the land and manage the beef herd until 2013. Lowell’s quiet demeanor was reflected through his ability to spend many hours carrying out his daily routine of farming. Lowell spent the last few years never missing a game of the Packers, Brewers and Badgers. Lowell rekindled an interest, from his youth, of building a model train. One of his many quality traits was his love of being outdoors with his animals which not only included his herd of cattle but also extended to his dogs and relaying his stories to his children and grandchildren. He instilled this love into all that surrounded him.
Lowell is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Betty; his daughters, Pauline “Polly” (Thomas) Glentz, Sheila (Thomas) Huber both of rural Alma, WI and JoAnne Seiberling of Wabasha MN; an incredibly close family friend, Scott (Lynn) Smith of Mondovi; grandchildren, Sara (Joe), Alexander (Ali), Larissa, Dustin (Andrea); his two great grandchildren, Evelyn and Eleanor; sister Idella (Albert) Larson of Lake City, MN; sister in law Donna Beckman of Zumbrota, MN, also by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents, Lowell was preceded in death by a brother, Robert.
