Raymond "Ray" Thomas Konter, 84, of rural Buffalo City, WI, passed away peacefully Friday, October 4, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Ray was born, November 6, 1939, in Waumandee, WI, the son of Roman and Rose (Konsella) Konter. He was also a member of the 1959 graduating class at Cochrane-Fountain City high school (first class to attend and graduate in the newly formed school of C-FC).
After a 4-year enlistment in the US Army as a military policeman, Ray returned home where he worked initially at the Creamery in Fountain City, WI until taking a position at Elmer's Auto Salvage in Fountain City, WI in 1967 where he enjoyed a 35-year career, retiring in 2002.
In 1980 Ray met Patricia Crowson of Buffalo City, WI and they wed a year later on July 11, 1981. Ray was a humble, but proud gardener, wood worker, fisherman, and wine maker. Friend to all and eager to share vegetables grown, wine made, or crafts hand-made,
Ray will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Albert and sisters Delores and Evelyn.
Ray is survived by one sister, Bernadette, his wife of 43 years, Patricia, stepchildren Lisa da Costa, Mark Crowson, Sam Crowson, Daryl Crowson, and 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be at 10:00 AM until the start of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 11, 2024, at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Winona, MN with Father Mark McNea, presiding. Ray will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Cemetery in Winona.
