Peter John Pichler, 88, of Mondovi, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 11, 2016, at the Assisted Living of Durand.
He was born in rural Albany Township to John and Marie (Feda) Pichler on January 30, 1928. Peter attended the White Block School through 8th grade when he decided to work on the family farm. He married Armella Bjorge on June 5, 1956. Peter and Armella settled on a farm in the Drammen Township, rural Mondovi. Peter and Armella would continue to farm for the next 34 years until they sold the farm to their son in 1989.
In 1992, Peter suffered a stroke and an aneurism that left him with short-term memory loss for the next 24 years. This did not stop him from leading a meaningful life. Peter would go on to entertain many nursing home residents and his grandchildren with the accordion. He had a musical talent that enabled him to play in various bands: Westerneers, Top Notchman, Vikings, Fedie Band and many gatherings with neighbors. Peter enjoyed playing cards with his brothers and sister, friends, and family. Pfeiffer and solitaire were favorite card games. Peter and Armella enjoyed afternoon visits with friends and family in the later years. Peter was able to play cards up until the very end. He had a great sense of humor and quick wit.
Peter is survived by wife of 60 years, Armella; five children, Carrie (Barry) Weber of Mondovi, Clarence (Mary Beth) of Mondovi, George of Mondovi, Norman (Kymberlee) of St. Charles, MN, and Richard (Shelly) of Mondovi; brothers, Clifford of Eau Claire, David (Arlene) of Eau Claire, and Larry (Evelyn) of Durand; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James; sisters, Bregetta (Thomas) O’Keefe and Eileen (Ernest) Sykora; sister-in-law, Dorothy and brother-in-law, Albert Bjorge and his wife Verdalee.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Falls on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at 11:00 am with Father Joseph C. Nakwah presiding. Burial to immediately follow in the Parish cemetery. A visitation will be held at Talbot Family Funeral Homes - Mondovi Chapel on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 from 4-7 pm and then again at church from 10 am until the time of Mass.
The family would like to thank Marianne and staff of the Assisted Living of Durand for the great care that Peter received when living there.
