Orville T. Mikelson, age 92 of Nelson, passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester. He was born on August 27, 1926 in Nelson, the son of Alfred and Josephine “Josie” (Brommer) Mikelson. After graduation from Nelson High School, Orville served in the United States Army. When he returned from the war, he began working at Gould, Lake City, MN and then started to work as a butter maker at Nelson Creamery. During the Vietnam War, he worked at Presto in Eau Claire making ammunition and from there he finished his last 15 years of employment with Dairyland Power, Alma. He was a longtime member of the Nelson VFW. Orville was an avid Brewers, Badgers and Packers fan. He enjoyed attending auctions and was proud of his collection of bidding numbers. Orville enjoyed the time he spent socializing with friends at the “Top Hat” and the senior meals at the Nelson Hall. He personally took it upon himself to keep and maintain historical records for the Village of Nelson and its High School.
Orville is survived by his children, Charles (Wendy) Mikelson of Fountain City, James (Deb) Mikelson of Nelson and Diane (Paul) Mikelson of Alma; grandchildren, Jennifer (Mike) Froh of Camp Douglas, Scott (Karina) Mikelson of Fernandina Beach, FL, Melissa (Bruce) Mikelson of Edgar and Eric (Stacy) Mikelson of Alma and great-grandchildren, Alyssa and Megan Froh, Jaykob and Ian Mikelson, and Olivia and Isla Mikelson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Hazel.
