Norma Dierks Stone

Norma Dierks Stone of Alma, Wisconsin, age 91 passed away on Monday, August 26,2024 at Woodstone Senior Living in Rice Lake, WI. Norma was born on February 2, 1933 in Cumberland, Wisconsin to Richard and Myrtle Dierks. It was a snowy night, and Norma’s parents had to travel by sleigh part of the way to the hospital. She grew up on a Dairy Farm in Comstock, Wisconsin where she had many fond memories of helping on the farm, from bringing in the cows to driving the Farmall tractor. Norma attended a two-room grade school in Comstock and graduated from Cumberland High School where she was in the high school band and could be heard singing the school fight song into the last week of her life. Norma went on to attend the Wisconsin State College - River Falls where she met her husband, Vernon Stone. Norma and Vernon were wed on June 5, 1954, in Colorado Springs, CO, where Vernon was stationed at Fort Carson. Later in her life Norma would receive her master’s degree specializing in reading and language. Norma spent many years substitute teaching for the area school districts, while raising her 5 children. She later accepted a teaching position at the Gilmanton School District where she finished her teaching career. Norma was active in the Alma United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, 4H, and was instrumental in starting and volunteering at the Alma Library. Norma had a great love for music, with the gift of being able to play any song she could hear in her head, on both the piano and accordion. She used her musical talents at her church and many private settings to bring joy to others. Dogs were very special to Norma from an early age where Skipper was her beloved “friend”, later in life a visit with a dog would be the highlight of her day. She and Vernon traveled to many international locations across several continents during their retirement and enjoyed winters in Texas. Norma is survived by her children, Margi Christofferson (Doug), David (Patricia), Becky Robertson (Phil) and Karen Smith (Dave); Son-in-law, Donny Ganz; her brother Dick (Marilyn) Dierks, 13 grandchildren; 17 greatgrandchildren and many friends to whom Norma encountered. Norma was preceded in death by her Husband, Vernon; Parents, Richard and Myrtle Dierks; and one Daughter, Barbara Ganz. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Talbot Family Funeral home, Alma, Wisconsin at 1:00 PM with Pastor Tony Hill officiating. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on September 5, 2024, one hour prior to the service at 12:00 PM.
