Mildred Magdalena Tomten

Three weeks after celebrating her 100th birthday with many relatives and friends, Mildred Tomten passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on March 21, 2014 in Marshfield, WI. Mildred Magdalena was born on February 27, 1914 to Rudolph and Magdalena (Schultz) Rick in the Town of Gilmanton. In 1946 she married Oscar Tomten. To this union, three daughters were born While living in Gilmanton she ran a small pickle factory out of her garage. In 1960 they moved to Libertyville, Ill. While living there she worked at Muntz TV in Wheeling, Ill. In 1969 they moved to Dellwood, WI were she and her husband ran a small resort. In 1978 they moved to Cleghorn where the spent the rest of their retirement years. Mildred will be remembered as one of the hardest working persons you could have ever met. She worked from sunup until sundown doing everything from sewing, knitting, baking and canning from their big garden. Grandchildren always knew there were cookies in the cookie jar and guests never left with an empty stomach. She was a special lady and will be greatly missed. Mildred was preceded in death by her husband in 1995, her parents and 11 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her three daughters, LaRae (Murray) Knecht of Cleghorn, Judith (Don) Peroutka of Pleasant Prairie, WI and Julie (Jim) Connally of Larkspur, CO; she is also survived by seven grandchildren, Kevin (Kristen) Knecht, Kalli Roberts, Amy (Jeff) Clark, Carrie (Josh) Barrett, Andrew (Laura Peroutka, Eric (Nancy) Gust and Ryan Gust; and 11 great grandchildren. Services will be held on Thursday, March 27 at 11:30 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, Cleghorn with Pastor Moe officiating. Visitation will be at 9:30 AM until the time of the service at 11:30AM.
