Mike H. Hurin

Eugene H. "Mike" Hurin, age 82, of Alma, passed away on Monday, December 26 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Wabasha. He was born on April 19, 1929 to Howard and Rose (Hayes) Hurin in Hecla, SD. He was raised at St. Joseph's Orphanage in Wabasha, MN. On April 7, 1956 Mike married Margaret M. Denor at St Boniface Catholic church in Manitowoc. Mike honorably served our country in the United States Army belonging to the 82nd Airborne division from 1946 until his honorable discharge in 1948 Mike was the proud owner of the Silver Moon bar and dancehall in Alma from 1963 until 1978. Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and sponsoring a softball team for 15 years. He will be greatly missed. Mike is survived by his daughter, Mary (Brian) Hoffman of Wexford, PA; and granddaughter, Caitlin; brother, Robert (Marilyn) Hurin of Canton, OH; godson, Patrick Stiehl; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friend and past caregiver, Ellen Stiehl. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret, two sisters, Alice and Virginia and one brother, James Hurin. A memorial mass will be offered on Friday, December 30 at 11:00 AM at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Alma with Fr. Brian Jazdzewski officiating. Burial of cremains will follow at Alma Memorial Cemetery. A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, one hour prior to the mass at the church.
