On Sunday, July 09, 2023 at Dove Healthcare, West in Eau Claire, Michael G. Shapkaroff ended his short battle with cancer.
Michael was born November 12, 1949 to Mike and Sophia (Koleff) Shapkaroff. He was a 1968 graduate of Lew Wallace High School. Upon graduation, Michael attended Indiana State University graduating in 1972. In 1970 he married Irene Stambolos, they later divorced. After graduation Michael was drafted during one of the last drafts of the Vietnam War; he enlisted in the United States Airforce and was stationed at March Airforce Base in Riverside County, CA for 4 years. Michael was very proud of his service to his country.
Michael’s career took him into sales until his retirement when he moved to Mondovi, WI.
Michael is survived by his siblings Vasil (Nancy) Shapkaroff of Valparaiso,IN , Kathleen Stelzleni of Mondovi, WI and Marlene Trieschman of Yorba Linda, CA. Nieces and nephews Cori (Brian Mansfield)Kale, Kate Shapkaroff, Michael (Tanya) Stelzleni, Sarah Stelzleni, Jonathan (Cassandra Pereda) Stelzleni and Stephen (Serena) Trieschman. Great nieces Hannah (Jake) Mangus, Lila Kale, Sophia, Alayna, Mara and nephew, Ezra Stelzleni. Very special friends Joe and Judy Forgett and David Muligan.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents and infant niece and nephew, Sarah and David Trieschman.
Michael enjoyed hunting throughout the United States and Mexico and took special pride in teaching his nephews the art of hunting. He enjoyed watching his great nieces and nephew grow up. He was a great Uncle and a good brother; as well as an avid NASCAR fan.
Michael has chosen to have his cremains buried at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN at a later date.
The family would like to thank the staff of Dove Healthcare West 2500 for the care they provided Michael as well as Mayo Clinic Home Health and Hospice. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Mayo Clinic Home Health and Hospice, 1221 Whipple Street, Eau Claire, WI 54703.
