Melvin K. Larson, age 89, of Urne, WI passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the American Lutheran Home, Mondovi.
He was born on June 13, 1929 on the family homestead in Urne, a son of the late Ole and Minnie (Quarberg) Larson.
Melvin attended Church Valley School and then Nelson High School.
At the age of 15, Melvin began working for a living with various employers, most notably Herbert Tiffany and then Kraemer Brothers Construction, retiring on July 1, 1991.
On May 7, 1949, Melvin married Violet Hopf and to this marriage, three children were born, Stephen, Robert and Marcia. Violet preceded Melvin in death on August 14, 1966. After a short time in Wabasha, Melvin and his wife moved to the homestead farm in Urne, Buffalo County, WI.
Melvin married Gladys (Carothers) Evanson on February 7, 1970 and at the same time became the step-dad to four sons, Robert, Ricky, Timothy and Dan.
Melvin was a member of Lyster Lutheran Church, Town of Nelson, WI.
Some of Melvin’s hobbies were reading books, crossword puzzles and enjoyed the outdoors hunting or doing yardwork. What Melvin found to be his greatest enjoyment was time spent with his family.
Melvin is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife, Gladys; seven children, Stephen (Judy) of Mondovi, Robert (Linda) of Urne and Marcia (Mitch) Cox of Eau Galle, Robert Evanson of Ridgeland, WI, Ricky (Karin) Evanson of Colorado, Tim (Melissa) Evanson of Durand and Dan (Jeanine) Evanson of Red Wing; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; also by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides his parents and first wife, Violet, Melvin was preceded in death by his brothers, Arthur and Orville and granddaughter, Nicole.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Lyster Lutheran Church with burial to follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 20 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Talbot Family Funeral Home, Alma and again on Thursday from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service at the church.
