Melford C. Brevig, age 91 of Mondovi passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at the American Lutheran Home in Mondovi after a battle with cancer.
Mel was born on August 8, 1924 in Lanesboro, MN to Melvin and Myrtle (Moger) Brevig. He was baptized and confirmed at Rushford Lutheran Church. He attended school in Rushford, MN. On October 30, 1948 he married Marjorie Jandt at St. John's Lutheran Church in Barre Mills. Mel and Marjorie farmed for over 22 years in West Salem. In 1970, they bought a farm in Eau Claire County. Mel was a dairy farmer until he was forced to retire because of ill health.
He enjoyed the Packers, hunting, fishing and flying airplanes. Mel belonged to Black Hawk Flying Club at La Crosse Airport after retirement. Mel and Marjorie enjoyed traveling in their RV to many locations in South Dakota and Montana and camped for more than 30 years at a campground on Prairie Lake.
Mel will be missed by his wife of 66 years, Marjorie; son, Douglas (Mary); 2 grandsons, Brian of New York, NY and Christopher (Stephanie) of Onalaska; 2 great-grandchildren, Caden and Alivia; brothers, Earl (Rosemary) of La Crescent, MN and Ronald (Bonnie) of Rushford, MN; sister, Doris Olson of Houston, MN; sister-in-law, Margie Brevig of Rushford, MN; aunt, Lilia Moger; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Carroll and Arlyn and brothers-in-law, Gerald Olson and Carl Jandt.
A funeral service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Mondovi on Thursday, September 17, 2015 at 11:00 am with Pastor Paul Woebbeking officiating. Burial to immediately follow at Oak Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held at Talbot Family Funeral Home - Mondovi Chapel on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 from 4:00 - 7:00 pm and then again on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of service.
