Maynard E. Hanson, age 84, of Nelson, WI passed away on Wednesday October 11, 2023 unexpectedly, yet peacefully at his home.
Maynard was born on February 24, 1939 in Sand Creek Township, Pepin County, WI to Alvin and Lillian (Borgen) Hanson. Maynard was the 2nd to the last child born of 10 siblings.
After high school, Maynard entered the United States Army. He served 2 years, traveling to Oklahoma, New Jersey and Bremerhaven, Germany where he was promoted to Private 1st Class in August of 1962.
He was honorably discharged in November of 1967. He was a proud recipient of the decoration of Sharpshooter badge.
In November of 1969, Maynard was united in marriage to Donna Aitken and to this union they were blessed with 5 children.
Maynard worked at the sawmill for Tiffany’s with his dad and brothers. He also worked at the Alma Farmer’s Union for 25 years, retiring in 1999.
Maynard’s passion was for his family, that he loved so dearly… with dinners, visiting or just spending time with them. He will be remembered for his love and devotion for his wife, children, grandchildren and family.
Maynard will be sadly missed by his loving wife of the past 54 years, Donna; and his five children which include 2 sets of twins, Pat and Mike of Nelson and Marion of Alma and Marlene of Plum City and son, Jack of Pepin; grandsons, Michael of Utah, Andrew Serene of Pepin, Joseph Wittig of Fountain City and Parker of Pepin; granddaughters, Kiya(Nick) Ramsingh and Kalli Fay Caturia all of the Twin Cities; great grandson, Owen; brother, Ardell of Nelson; sister in law Margie of Alma and also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Maynard was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Lillian; siblings, Allen, Lyle, Arlene Edlin, Milton, Richard, Duane, Willard and Adeline Fahnel and grandson, Austin.
A celebration of life for Maynard Hanson will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the Nelson Community Hall. In honor of Maynard’s service to his Country, full military rites will be held at 3:45 PM at the Nelson Community Hall. A graveside service will be at Lyster Lutheran Cemetery on November 11, 2023
