Mark Alan Brovold

Mark Alan Brovold, age 62, of Alma, passed away unexpectedly on Monday December 29, 2014 at home in the loving arms of his wife. He was born on April 6, 1952 in La Crosse, son of Archie and Charlene (Sturdevant) Brovold. Charlene survives. Mark attended Alma Area Schools, graduating with the class of 1970. He then enrolled and experienced college at UW-River Falls. On September 29, 1973, Mark was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Patricia Hoch at St. John Lutheran Church in Alma. To this union, three children were born. Mark was the operations shift supervisor at Dairyland Power Cooperative, a career that spanned for 39 ½ years; retiring before he was honored with a 40 year plaque, claiming "those guys look really old!" Thru thick and thin, he served his co-workers as the union steward. He was a longtime and faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church in Alma, serving on the church council and could always be heard at services sharing his wonderful voice in music. Mark gave so much of himself to the community by serving in several different civic organizations such as Alma Lions Club, the Alma Rod and Gun Club, Alma Snow-drifters Snowmobile Club and enjoyed spending time with friends at the coffee club. One of Mark’s biggest contributions to the City of Alma is the over 36 years of service he gave for the Fire Department. Mark was not only a hunter and fisherman but was a complete outdoorsman. Loving nature from the time he was a boy to recent time in the woods with the grandchildren. Lately, it wasn’t about the hunt. Quite simply it was about just being together with his family and friends at his palace, Buck Snort Lodge. A man so strong and brave, yet patient and gentle. Hands that could fix anything and a touch that can warm the heart. Mark’s legacy and love will be forever imbedded in the hearts of so many, especially his loving wife, children and precious grandchildren who were the light of his life. Mark will be sadly missed by his wife of the past 41 years, Patricia of Alma; his three children, Heidi (Rob) Stewart of Alma, Timothy (Jessie) of Mukwonago, WI and Benjamin (Melissa) of Waukesha, WI; seven precious grandchild, Madox, Mya, Isabella, Macy, Fynnigan, Maddilyn and Jack; his mother, Charlene of Alma; brother, Bruce (Pat) Brovold of Arcadia; also by several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Archie and his brother, Steve. A funeral service will be held on Saturday January 3, 2015 at 11:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church, Alma with Pastor Joel Bacon officiating. Burial will be at Alma Public Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday January 2 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Talbot Family Funeral Home, Alma Chapel and again on Saturday from 10 AM until the hour of the service.
