Margaret Irene Torgerson, age 85 of Buffalo City, formerly of rural Nelson passed away on Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at her home.
She was born on May 13, 1928 in Wabasha, a daughter of the late Henry and Lillian (Nimmo) Lane.
On June 1, 1946 Margaret was united in marriage to Orville Torgerson at the parsonage of Lyster Lutheran Church. To this union five daughters were born.
Orville preceded Margaret in death on January 23, 1999.
Together, Margaret and her husband worked diligently and side by side on their farm in the Town of Modena.
Even after selling their cows, Margaret and her husband remained on the farm, until 2006 Margaret moved to Buffalo City where she has resided ever since.
Margaret was a member of Lyster Lutheran Church where she was active with the ladies aid. She enjoyed spending time conversing and playing bingo with her friends at the senior center in Alma. Her hobbies included jigsaw puzzles, gardening both vegetable and flowers along with sewing and crochet where she created many treasures for her family. Margaret will be remembered by her family for her carpentry skills and the time she constructed her own garage.
The most treasured memory her family will hold in their hearts forever will be for the love and devotion she had for her loving daughters and her precious grandchildren, great grandchildren and recently a great-great granddaughter. She was the true matriarch of the family.
Margaret will be forever missed by her daughters, Bernice (Robert) Carlsen of Alma, Debra (James) Serum of Modena, Linda (Jeff Stingley) Torgerson of Alma and Margie Torgerson of Alma; grandchildren, Teresa (Brian) Ebersold, Patty (Bruce) Evanson and Timothy Dutcher, Jeffrey (Heather) Serum and Lora (Adam) Feuling, Lucas (special friend, Jen) Loewenhagen and Adam (fiancée Brittany) Loewenhagen, Mandy (Brady) Kircher, Ronnie Goeldner, Katie Haeussinger and John Haeussinger; great grandchildren,Aaron, Ashley and Derek, Kiyan, Bailey, Ryan and Ryker, Brielle and Andrew, Madison and one on the way; one great-great granddaughter, Ashlyn; also by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents and husband Orville, Margaret was preceded in death by three sisters, one brother, infant daughter, Susan and her grandson, Terry “Dutch” Dutcher.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 17 at 11:00 AM at the Lyster Lutheran Church with Pastor Michael Vetsch officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. A time of visitation and support for Margaret’s family will be held on Sunday, June 16 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Talbot Family Funeral Home, Alma chapel and again on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
