Lorna A Lisowski

April 11, 1931 — September 13, 2024

Lorna A Lisowski

Lorna Anna (Huber) Lisowski, age 93, of Alma, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 13, 2024 at home. Born on April 11, 1931, she was the eldest of two children of Reinhold and Lavina (Kurtzweg) Huber. Lorna's early years were spent in Alma, where she attended Tell Grade School and Alma High School. Her passion for education led her to continue her studies at Buffalo County Normal School and Winona State University, where she earned her teaching degree.

While in college, Lorna met the love of her life, John Lisowski, at a dance. They were married in 1951. Lorna began her career teaching at Danuser Valley County School for three years, while John farmed in Jahn’s Valley. Together, they eventually purchased a farm in Buffalo County, where they raised their seven children and later welcomed two-year-old Mary Kurtzweg into their family.

Lorna paused her teaching career to raise a family and farm side-by-side with her husband. Spare time was hard to come by, but Lorna, an accomplished seamstress, found time to sew clothes for her children and cultivate a remarkable garden. Her grandchildren fondly remember the Christmas shirts and birthday towels lovingly sewn by their Grandma Lorna.

As her children grew older, Lorna returned to teaching, working as a substitute teacher in the Alma, Durand, and Gilmanton school districts for several years. After retiring from farming, John and Lorna built a new home and enjoyed their golden years together.

Those who knew John and Lorna also knew their love for dancing. They could often be found enjoying their favorite polka band, The Rhythm Playboys, dancing to “In The Mood.” Their shared joy in life and dedication to each other was evident.

Lorna was deeply devoted to her family and faith. Her home was always filled with love and warmth. Nothing brought her more joy than a visit from her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered for her kindness, love of family, and generous heart.

Lorna will be sadly missed by her children, Bryce (Mary), Dennis (Mandy), Lolly (Dean) Thompson, Dianne (Jim) Erickson, Leslie (Sharie), Pat (Amp), Mary (Rich) Bauer; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law’s, Sandra Lisowski, Karen Lisowski; also by nieces, nephews, and friends. Lorna was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 65 years, John; daughter, Bonnie; grandson, Christopher; brother, Franklin and his wife, Marian.

A time of visitation and support for Lorna’s family will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, from 4:00 pm until ending with a Rosary service at 6:00 pm at Talbot Family Funeral Home, Alma Chapel and again at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Alma on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, from 10:00 am until the time of her Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am. Cremation will follow with burial at a later date.
