Lillia May Olson, age 94, of the Town of Drammen, Eau Claire County, WI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, at the Clairemont Nursing and Rehab Center in Eau Claire, WI.
She was born on April 21, 1921, in the Town of Drammen, to Clarence and Ida Marie (Lee) Johnson. Lillia attended and graduated from High School in Eau Claire. She then furthered her education at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education. She was forever proud of her alumni status. Lillia taught for many years at several one room rural school houses in the Mondovi and Eau Claire area teaching all subjects to all the students through the 8th grade. On July 6, 1953, Lillia was united in marriage to Oscar Simon Olson in the Town of Unity, Trempealeau County. Oscar preceded Lillia in death on March 5, 1980.
Lillia not only was an accomplished and proud teacher, but she also worked side by side with her husband, Oscar, on the farm, milking cows, working the land and feeding the animals. She had an incredible work ethic that was apparent to many as she still worked “part time” at Huntzinger Farms and the canning factory well into her 90s. In her early years, she was a member of Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church and later to Drammen Lutheran Church. She then became not only a faithful member but was a charter member of Prince of Peace Covenant Church, where in 1985, she donated land to where the church sits today. Lillia will be not only remembered for her hard work ethic, but will be mostly remembered for baking and cooking abilities, talents as a quilter where she would make quilts, now heirlooms, for all of her family and also for her hospitality and her loving and giving heart.
Lillia will be forever missed by her children, Janice (John) Balow of Chippewa Falls, Carol (Joe) Sessions of Eleva, Elaine Ness of Alma, Larry (Claire) Olson of Plymouth, MN, Sharon (Kevin) Malnory of Chippewa Falls; 8 grandchildren, Heather, Jason, Brent, Sarah, Brooke, Stephanie, Dylan and Lauren; great-grandchildren, Zavier, Gabriel, Jack, Brynn, Riley, Wyatt and Andy; one sister, Sylvia Mesang of Eau Claire; son in law, Ken Komro of Eau Claire; also by many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Besides her parents and her husband Oscar, Lillia was preceded in death by her daughter Sandy Komro; siblings, Clinton Johnson, Delores Kirchoff, Alfred Johnson and Arvilla Johnson.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2015, at 3:00 p.m. at the Talbot Family Funeral Home, Mondovi Chapel, with Pastor Steve Allison, Pastor of Prince of Peace Covenant Church, officiating. A visitation will be held on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until the hour of the service. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 4, at Drammen Lutheran Church Cemetery and all are invited to attend the committal service.
