Leannah A. Thompson, age 83, of Mondovi died Thursday, January 19, 2012, at the American Lutheran Home in Mondovi.
She was born June 12, 1928, in Modena Township, Buffalo County the daughter of Alfred and Bertina (Forthun) Peterson. Leannah was baptized and attended Sisson School both in Modena. In her early teens, she stayed with a brother and his family in Pigeon Falls. She attended confirmation there and was confirmed on November 30, 1941, at Pigeon Creek Ev. Lutheran Church. She married James Thompson December 15, 1945, at the Thompson Valley Lutheran Church parsonage. He preceded her in death on April 19, 2003. She was a member of Central Lutheran Church in Mondovi and had been an active member of their Ladies Organizations. Family was important to Leannah, she especially enjoyed family gatherings. She loved going to and having garage sales. She would spend days preparing her merchandise – everything had to be just so. Leannah was a homemaker and was the best lefse, donut, and graham cracker pie maker. She and James loved to play cribbage and spent many hours seeing who could get a better hand.
She is survived by two daughters, Judy Lubinsky and Linda (Don) Rudy both of Mondovi; a special niece, Dianne (fiancé - Justin) Jeurissen of Mora, MN; five grandchildren, Pam Larson, Karen (Al) Anderson, Melissa Gora, Tony (Jane) Poeschel, Andy (Lydia) Poeschel; eight great-grandchildren, Natalie (Jose) Hernandez, Eric and Joey Larson, Corryn Johnson, Lauren Poeschel, Ella and Anna Gora, Gracie Anderson; and one great-great-grandson, Braxton Hernandez; many other nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; five brothers, Melvin, Leo, Arthur, Palmer, Harry Peterson; two sisters, Hazel and Myrtle Peterson; two sons-in-law, Jerry Lubinsky and Glen Poeschel; brother-in-law Marvin Thompson; sister-in-law, Bernice Thompson; special niece, Bev Dregney.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, January 23, 2012, at Central Lutheran Church in Mondovi. Rev. Ralph Mork will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Lutheran Cemetery in Mondovi.
