LaVerne C. Wieland

LaVerne C. Wieland, Jr. "Junior" age 80, of Nelson, died Sunday, December 11, 2016 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Emergency. He was born on June 17, 1936, in the Town of Canton, Buffalo County, WI to the late LaVerne C. and Clara (Thompson) Wieland, Sr. Junior attended the Sisson grade school, Church Valley School and graduated from the Nelson High School with the class of 1955. Junior served his Country as a member of the United States Army, serving from November 4, 1955 until his honorable discharge on November 3, 1957. On September 13, 1958, Junior was united in marriage to Betty Schroeder at Lyster Lutheran Church. To this union, three children were born. Shortly after their marriage, Junior began employment at Federal Mogul in Lake City, MN until his retirement in 2006. Junior was a lifetime member of Lyster Lutheran Church and was an active member of the church dartball team. He was a very proud member of the Nelson fire department. He served on the department for 50 years, earned firefighter of the year honors in 1996 and in the spring of 2016 retired from the department. Junior, in his younger years, enjoyed deer hunting and bowling. He also enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers and was a Minnesota Twins fan. He will forever be remembered for his love of travel, camping in Chippewa Falls with family, feeding and watching the birds at his home…but the most memorable attribute that Junior leaves is his wonderful smile and the twinkle in his eyes, especially for his loving and precious wife, children and grandchildren. Junior will be sadly and forever missed by his wife of the past 58 years, Betty, of Nelson; children, LaVonne Wieland of Apple Valley, MN, Gary (Holly) Wieland of Alma and Jeffery (Brenda) Wieland of Shakopee, MN; his precious grandchildren, Heidi (Ryan) Barthels, Ashley (Wesley) Rueter, Sam Wieland and Alex (fiancée, Jenna) Wieland; siblings, Theresa Zastrow, Diane Bernicke, Carol (Gil) Arnoldy, Roger (his dear friend, Donna) Wieland and Barbara (Mike) Unser; sister in law, Twylah Wieland; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding Junior in death were his parents and brother, Duane along with brothers in law, Raymond Zastrow and Thomas Bernicke and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 16, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Lyster Lutheran Church, Town of Nelson, Buffalo County, WI with Pastor Michael Vetsch officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 15 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Talbot Family Funeral Home, Alma Chapel and again on Friday, one hour prior to the service, at the church. Please join the family on Thursday night at 7:30 PM for a time of remembrance and sharing of memories of Junior at the funeral home.
