Larry Edward Nelson

Larry Edward Nelson, age 66, of Gilmanton, WI passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 12 at Mayo Health Systems, Luther Campus following a brief, yet courageous battle with cancer with his loving family at his side. He was born on December 14, 1945 in Eau Claire, WI a son of the late Arthur and Mae (Kolve) Nelson. Larry attended Gilmanton High School. Shortly after high school, Larry was drafted to serve our Country during the Vietnam war as a member of the United States Marines Corp. Soon after his honorable discharge from the Marine Corp, Larry began his career in farming. He was the founding father of his farm which is still in the family today. On May 25, 1968, Larry was united in marriage to Caryn Dascher in Whitehall. To this union, five children were born. He was a life member of Forrest-Gunderson-Klevgard American Legion Post 264 of Gilmanton. Larry enjoyed time fishing in Spooner and hunting on his land here in Gilmanton. He was a great conversationalist and enjoyed time with his friends. Larry will be remembered for his strong willed personality, and a passion and knowledge of politics. What Larry will be mostly remembered for is his gracious and loving heart, willing to give to those in need, giving people “second chances”. Also, the will to never give up, and to make sure he raised his children to be respectful and kind to others. Larry will be sadly missed by his wife of the past 44 years, Caryn of Gilmanton; four children, Tony (Stephanie) Nelson, of Gilmanton, JoAnna Nelson of Gilmanton, Dawn (Jeff) Genelin of Tomahawk, WI and Dan (Kayla) Nelson of Gilmanton; four granddaughters, Kacee and Samantha; Corinn and Ella; two grandsons, Adian and Bryson; four siblings, LeMoine Nelson of Independence, Lloyd (Carol) Nelson of Gilmanton, Donna Severson of Eau Claire and Jim (Judy) Nelson of Gilmanton; also by other nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Laura Mae in 1971, his sister Eileen and his brother in law, Jack Severson. Service of celebration will be held on Saturday, June 16 at 11:00 AM at the Poeschel-Talbot Funeral Home, Mondovi. Burial will follow at Julson-Nelson Cemetery with full military honors presented by the Forrest-Gunderson-Klevgard American Legion, Post 264. A time of visitation and support for Larry’s family will be held on Friday (today), June 15 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again on Saturday one hour prior to the service all at Poeschel-Talbot Funeral Home.
