Kathryn Thelma Rustad, age 87, of Mondovi, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 21, 2012 at American Lutheran Home of Mondovi.
She was born on January 28, 1925 in Steele Valley, Town of Canton, Buffalo, a daughter of the late Henry Charlie and Lena Bertina (Thorson) Gunderson.
Kathryn attended Church Valley Grade School. On January 6, 1945, at the Canton Lutheran Church in Mondovi Kathryn took the vows of marriage with Jeffie Albert Rustad. To this union, three sons were born. Jeffie preceded Kathryn in death on February 2, 2004. Kathryn was a faithful and devoted member of Central Lutheran Church, Mondovi where she was very active with Circle group, Central’s Women’s organizations. She served as an officer of her Circle for many years and found great enjoyment helping and volunteering at most church events.
For more than 30 years, Kathryn worked side by side with her husband on their farm. She worked over 20 years for at Grace’s Café owned by her sister in law, Grace Pfund, held seasonal jobs as well, both at Huntsinger Farms and Lakeside foods.
Many will remember Kathryn for volunteering her time at least 3 times a week at the American Lutheran Home, Mondovi where she would take the resident’s for rides in their wheel chairs, faithfully showing the video of the church service along with several other duties as well. After the loss of her husband in 2004, Kathryn lived 5 ½ years with her son, Randy, until August of 2009 when she decided it was time to move into the American Lutheran Home where she has resided ever since. Kathryn enjoyed reading and spending time with her family, especially her dear and precious great grandchildren.
Sadly missed by her son, Randy (KayAnn) Rustad of Mondovi; daughter in Law Barb Rustad of Mondovi; four loving grandchildren, Karla (Pat) Knudtson, Kim (Chad Gruber) Dregney, Douglas (Jessica) Rustad, Jr., Rochelle (Troy Wiehrouch) Rombalski; step grandson, Jason (DeDe) Johnston; grandson in law, Randy Rombalski; her precious (and spoiled) great grandchildren, Kelly and Amanda Knudtson, Dalton and Deanna Dregney, Clay and Cloe Gruber, Issac and Alexis Rustad and Cody Rombalski; step great grandchildren, Jayla and Jesse Johnston; also by nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
Besides her parents and Husband, Jeffie, her two sons, Perry Duane Rustad on January 1, 1986 and Douglas Jeffie Rustad, Sr. on March 24, 2007, along with her infant brother, Clayton, sister in law, Grace Rustad Pfund and daughter in law, Mary Fitzgerald Rustad preceded Kathryn in death.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 25 at 10:00AM at Central Lutheran Church, Mondovi, with Pastor Rolf Morck officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 24 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Poeschel-Talbot Funeral Home and again at the church on Monday from 9:00AM until the hour of the service.
