Katherine Jeanette (Bade) Huber, born on March 1, 1933, in Winona, Minnesota, died peacefully on January 10, 2025 surrounded by family. She was the cherished daughter of Elmer Bade and Melva (Rohrer) Bade and grew up alongside her two younger sisters, Sharon (Jim) Brinkman and Pauline (David) Rutschow.
Katherine spent her early years in the Cream area on a dairy and hog farm, where she developed a strong work ethic and a love for nature while helping her father with milking and other farm work. She graduated from Cochrane High School in 1951 and briefly attended the University of Wisconsin before choosing to leave school to marry Robert Frank Huber on September 26, 1953. The couple initially lived in New Mexico while Robert served in the Air Force before returning to the family farm near Tell, where they built their life together.
Katherine dedicated over three decades of her career to the Alma Area School District. Her commitment to education and her community left an enduring legacy among students and colleagues alike. Beyond her professional contributions, Katherine found joy in life’s simple pleasures—reading, feeding birds, and staying connected with friends and family through social media. She also enjoyed doing research on genealogy.
She was a devoted mother to her three children: Cheryl Huber (T.L. Stanley), Bruce Huber (Deb Thomsen), and Richard Huber (Tammy Huber). Katherine’s love for her family was unwavering, and she took great pride in being a grandmother to numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Katherine was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 49 years, Bob. His memory remained a source of comfort and inspiration throughout her life.
Katherine will be remembered for her dedication to family, her passion for education, her appreciation for nature’s beauty, and the warmth she brought into the lives of those who knew her. May her memory bring solace to all who mourn her death.
