Joan L. Lewis, 84, of Buffalo City, Wis., passed away November 8, 2024, at Eau Claire Mayo Hospital.
Joan was born November 20, 1939, in Modena, Wis., the daughter of Otto and Sara (Wick) Loewenhagen. She married Gaylord P. Lewis Sr on December 16, 1961, at Harry Hansen’s Loan Service in Iowa. Over the years she worked at the Winona Knitting Mills and the Cochrane group home all while working with Gaylord on the family farm and raising her children. In her younger years she would help Gaylord on the river trapping beavers and muskrats and occasionally would even help with a drive or two during deer hunting. Even in retirement both Joan and Gaylord were active on the farm. While Gaylord loved road trips and getaways Joan was always happy to return to the comfort of her home. Joan was an amazing cook and baker, sharing many great memories in the kitchen with her daughter and then later her granddaughter, Maddie. Joan loved watching her bird feeders and the river from her porch. Over the last couple of years, she would talk about a Cardinal who kept trying to get through the window to where she sitting and we teased her that it was Gaylord trying to let her know he was still around. Joan had become an avid Packer fan and planned her Sundays around game time. Being able to watch a Packer game with her grandson, Max, brought her great joy and she loved visits from friends and family and sharing memories.
Joan is survived by her son, Gaylord Lewis Jr. of Buffalo City and her daughter, Crystal (Robert) Nordby of Mindoro; two grandchildren, Maxton and Madisyn Sedevie of Mindoro; many nieces, nephews and cousins and special friends who she trusted and confided in. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; three sisters, Sarah Ann, Donna and Esther; and seven brothers, Alvin, Alton, Marvin, Ray, Otto, Veryl and Martin “Chip”.
A committal service for both Joan and Gaylord with full military honors will be held at Buffalo City Cemetery on Wednesday November 27, 2024 at 11:00AM
