Jeanette Louise Sass

Jeanette L. Sass, of Cochrane, passed away on the morning of Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Saint Anne's Extended Care in Winona. She was born on December 9, 1929 at the home in Plum City, the 11th daughter of 13 children; parents, Paul and Louisa (Roth) Gilles. Jeanette graduated from Plum City High School. She married Rene O. Sass on April 3, 1951 and to this union 6 children were born. Jeanette was interested in the healthcare field at an early age. She worked at Plum City Hospital as a nursing aid and realized she wanted to further her career beyond that. This was evident as of 1964, she along with her mother-in-law, Lillian Sass began ownership of the Cochrane Rest Home. She and her husband expended their endeavors by starting another caring facility, Sass Nursing Home in Pepin. After selling their nursing home in Pepin, She became the administrator of the nursing home that they sold which was then called Pepin Manor. Jeanette was a member of Hope United Church of Christ, Cochrane where she was active in the ladies guild, the order of the Eastern Star and will be remembered for her selfless acts of volunteer work which include, the food pantry in Alma, Winona Hospital and Ye Old School Shop in Buffalo City. She had a love of music, playing cards and traveling. Jeanette will be sadly missed by her daughters and sons, Jolene (Werner) Engel of Fountain City, Cindy (Fred) Ziegler of Fountain City, Randy (Ann Hermann) Sass of Winona, MN, Michael Sass of Fountain City, Kathleen Ann (James Reichert) Wedan of Cottage Grove, MN, Lisa (Jim) Deneff of Buffalo City; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Eva Storm-Arden Hills, MN; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Rene and siblings, Leon, Robert, Melvin. Marvin, Arnold, Mildred, Rosella, Dorothy, Viola, Phyllis and Marie. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Hope United Church of Christ in Cochrane. Inurnment will follow at Buffalo City Cemetery. A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, March 30 from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service. Talbot Family Funeral Homes, Cochrane Chapel is assisting the family.
