Janice Jean Peterson

Janice Jean Peterson, age 67, of Arkansaw, previously a 40 year resident of Alma, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 24 at Mayo Health System, Luther Campus following a courageous 10 month battle with cancer.
She was born on March 21, 1944 on the family farm on the Alma bluff a daughter of the late Herbert and Louisa (Hasse) Gross.
Janice attended grade school at the one room school house in the Town of Lincoln, Buffalo County, WI. At the age of 7, Janice went to school in Minnesota City and then Jefferson Middle School in Winona.
On August 18, 1962 Janice was united in marriage to Richard A. Peterson at Minnesota City. To this union two loving children.
Once Janice raised her children into their teenage years, she furthered her education at Winona Technical College for Human Resources.
Janice worked various jobs before she began an 11 year career with Buffalo County Health and Human Services, retiring in 2003.
For a few years, Janice enjoyed competing in the ranks of the powder puff division and ice racing at Tell.
What Janice will be remembered for is her love of antiquing at places the roads would take her and her husband and gardening. What Janice will be forever remembered for is how much she loved time spent on the back of the motorcycle with her husband traveling throughout the United States and of course, the love she had for her two very precious granddaughters.
Janice will be deeply missed by her husband and best friend of over 49 years, Richard of Arkansaw; her son, Rick (Jenny) Peterson of Wabasha; her daughter, Gina (Fiance, Terry) Cooper of Durand; her two precious granddaughters, Lexy and Lindsey Peterson; brothers, Eugene (Joan) Gross of GA and Curtis (Bernadette) Gross of AL; sisters, Eileen Curtis of MN, Joan (James) Kozlowski of MN, Judy Philipps of MN, Betty (Frank) Johnson of MN; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
Besides her parents, one brother Gary and one sister Lois preceded Janice in death.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 29 at 11:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church , Alma with Pastor Joel Bacon officiating. A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, October 28 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Talbot Family Funeral Homes, Alma Chapel and again on Saturday, at the Church one hour prior to the memorial service.
