James E. "Jim" Thompson, age 88 of Eau Claire, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at Heritage Court Memory Care. He was born on May 22, 1928 in Eleva, Wisconsin, the son of the late Sever and Sena Thompson. On October 1, 1950, he united in marriage to the late Darlene Mae Rhodes at Epiphany Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. Jim served in the army and was stationed in Mannheim, Germany during the Korean war. He worked in the plumbing and heating industry for many years, primarily with F.E. Grosvold and Badger State Plumbing and Heating. After retiring, he obtained his real estate license and started his second career as a real estate agent. He retired from real estate at the age of 86.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Ann-Marie Smieja of Charlotte, N.C. and Ron Thompson of Sommerset; one son-in-law, Ervin Davis of Eau Claire; five grandchildren, Melissa Thompson, Heather Thompson, Amy (Criag) Thompson, Justin Smieja and Maddy Smieja; two siblings Doris Knott of Eau Claire and Stan Thompson of Eau Claire; nieces, nephews and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter, Karen Davis; and brother, Clarence Thompson.
Burial of Jim's cremation remains will be held on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 11:30 am at the Norden Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Mondovi, followed by a luncheon at the church.
