Isabelle Clara "Izzy" Benson, age 84, of Fountain City, formerly of Cream, Wis. passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital, La Crosse.
She was born at home in Arkansaw, Wis. on November 2, 1928 a daughter of the late William and Vera (Metclaf) Luther.
Izzy, a resident of Arkansaw, moved to Alma to attend the teachers normal school, it was here that she met Vernon Herrmann and were united in marriage in 1947 and then relocated to Chicago. To this union, three children were born. They later divorced.
It was in 1971 Izzy married Robert Benson, they later divorced.
After residing in Chicago for around 20 years, Izzy moved back to Buffalo County and purchased the Ponderosa Bar in Cream, Wis. Izzy owned and operated the Ponderosa for 35 years. Shortly following her retirement, Izzy moved to the Eagle Bluff Apartments in Fountain City.
Izzy's legacy will be her days at the Ponderosa. She was the true definition of a "social butterfly and will be affectionately remembered as Buffalo County's information center.
Her love of playing cards on an almost daily basis can be seen by her spot on the corner of the bar that has been worn away. Over time, she made many dear friends at the Eagle Bluff Apartments.
Her days at the Ponderosa was her life, her pride and her joy. Those that would come weren't just patrons, they were her family. Her family and the dear friends she made over three decades, will always remember her and miss her dearly.
Izzy will be forever remembered and deeply missed by her three children, Dennis (Patricia) Herrmann of Cary, IL, Dorothy Fuller of Cochrane and Donald Herrmann of Cream; two grandchildren, Tina (Todd) Anibas of Nelson and George (Shara) Fuller of Fountain City; great grandchildren, Mandi, Laura, Bryce, Derek, Ricky, Lexi and one on the way; one great-great granddaughter, Hilari; her siblings, Lyle Luther, of Plum City, Lorraine Sievwright of Durand, Edward (Judy) Luther of Alma and William Luther of Madison; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
Besides her parents, Izzy was preceded in death by her brothers, Burt and James; sister, Eileen; two grandsons, Scott Herrmann and Woody Fuller.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, April 7 at 4;00 PM at the Talbot Family Funeral Home, ALMA CHAPEL. Cremation will follow. A visitation will be held on Sunday, from 1:00 PM until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
