Iona C. Poeschel, 82 of the Town of Mondovi, Buffalo County, Wisconsin died Thursday October 16, 2014, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire, WI.
She was born on May 7, 1932, in Lima, a daughter of the late John and Mary Sabelko. She attended Pepin County Elementary Schools, graduating from Sacred Heart High School, Lima, WI. She was united in marriage to Arnold J Poeschel, at Holy Rosary Church, Lima, WI May 7, 1952.
She was an incredible, amazing woman full of strength who raised ten children on a large farm in a small town. She lived her life for the benefit of others. She not only stayed home to raise her 10 children, she drove kindergarten bus, babysat for a number of families worked at Mondovi Elementary School as a teacher’s aide for 30 years. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren will remember her as the most amazing cook. Our fondest memories are homemade beef noodle soup, canned tomato sauce and juice, dill pickles, fresh homemade bread, Reese’s peanut butter cups, apple pie bars, sour cream cookies, apple sauce, French toast, and frozen corn. These are traits of the legacy that she has left her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In her free time, she enjoyed her garden and flowers and spending time with her family. She passed on traits of hard work, hospitality, and kindness. We couldn’t have asked for a sweeter, kind lady to call mom and grandma.
She is survived and will be sadly missed by her former husband, Arnold Poeschel, father of their 10 children, Mary (Jerry) Odegard, Linda (Jon) Serum, Dale, Rosanne (John) Vonasek, Doug, Randy (Jill), Dianne Tralmer, Faye (Ed) Larson, Jim (Sue), Pat (Erin) and Todd (Sue). Her 29 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Her brother, Harold (Betty) Sabelko, in-laws Bernard Heit, Darrell (Myrna) Poeschel, Linda Rudy, Norma (Neil) Crawford and several nieces and nephews and friends.
