Howard J. Johnston, age 65, of Mondovi, passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at his home. He was born May 23, 1951 in Mondovi, a son of the late Ray and Harriet (Hurtley) Johnston. Howard married Barbara Fleming on December 8, 1973 and later divorced but remained a constant friendship. He loved his job patrolling the road maintenance in the Town of Dover, preceding that he was an over the road truck driver. Howard was an avid hunter and was proud to have shot a large doe after six years of disabled hunting. He also enjoyed drag racing, tractor pulls and especially softball; playing or watching it. Howard was honored to be a part of the Mondovi Softball Association and a supporter of the Mondovi Youth Baseball and was delighted to see the new field coming together for the community. He enjoyed time spent with friends over a cup of coffee at the White Pig. He had a passion for hunting and softball, but his true passion was his grandchildren and was devoted to them unconditionally.
Howard will be sadly missed by his son, Jason "Sowie" (DeDe); grandchildren, Jayla and Jesse; siblings, Larry (Linda L.), Jerry, Ray (Laurie) and Jackie Spoo; special friend, Patricia; step-grandchildren, Jon Myren, Coy Myren, Cam Myren, Raelyn Myren, Alayna Myren and Cole Myren; other relatives and many dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Linda M. Johnston.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Our Saviors United Methodist Church in Mondovi with pastor Dale Engen officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery.
