Holly Stiehl

Holly Ann Stiehl, age 80, of Alma, passed away on Monday, October 16, 2023 at Gundersen St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Wabasha.

She was born on July 20, 1943 in Wabasha to the late Elroy and Lois (Cole) Averbeck.

Holly attended Alma Area Schools, graduating from Alma High School with the class of 1961. After high school, she attended the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

On September 3, 1966, Holly, a former prom queen, was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, the former high school prom king, John Stiehl.  To this beloved union, 3 sons were born.  John preceded Holly in death on May 26, 2020.

Holly worked for Buffalo Electric Cooperative before she began a very successful career at an Insurance Agent at Bautch Insurance in Alma. 

She was a longtime and faithful member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Alma, serving the parish in many different capacities. 

Holly was a lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 224 in Alma.  Holly and her fellow Auxiliary members were very active with many Alma Community events.   Holly was also the Alumni coordinator for the Alma Schools for many years.  She was also a member of the Red Hat Society of Alma. 

Holly will be remembered for her baking and for her arts and crafts that she would create throughout the years.  Whether it was crocheting, knitting, macramé or ceramics, she would share these creations with her family… many of these heirlooms will be lasting memories for years and generations to come.

Holly’s greatest joy in her life was her grandchildren and she would support them in any way possible, they were quite honestly her pride and joy.  If there was a sporting event or a school activity that involved them, chances are, you would find her there.  She was the true definition of a wife, a mom, grandma and a true friend.

Holly will be sadly and forever missed by her sons, Stacy (Dawn) Stiehl, Michael Stiehl and Christopher (Jill) Stiehl; loving grandchildren, Richie and Shawn; Iris and Lily; Riley and Keegan; sisters, Linda (Kim) Brantner and Wendy (Chuck) Mikelson; sisters in law, Susan (Jerry) Krofta, Joan Esser and Jeannette (Dan) Klassen; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives along with a litany of dear friends and a lady that was like a daughter, Ashley (Brad) Brouillard and their children, Bella Vivienne and Adelaide. 

Preceding Holly in death were her parents; beloved husband, John; sister, Ellen Stiehl and niece, Pam Fink. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will held on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 1:00 PM at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Alma with Father Arul Doss as Celebrant.  A visitation will be held on Saturday October 21 from 10:00 AM until the hour of the Mass.  

In Lieu of flowers, the family request memorials, in the name of Holly Stiehl, be directed to the Alma Booster Club or the Alma American Legion, Post 224 Ladies Auxiliary.
