Hilbert Romeo Kaste, age 84, of Pepin, formerly of Cochrane, passed away on Monday, December 10, 2018 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
He was born on September 22, 1934 in Alma, a son of the late Arthur and Lorena (Iberg) Kaste.
Hilbert served our country as a member of the United States Army from 1957 until his honorable discharge in 1959.
On October 16, 1959, Hilbert was united in marriage to Colleen Draeger at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Cochrane. To this beloved union, two daughters were born, Cheryl and Lori.
Hilbert worked at ADM in Winona and during this time, still found time to help his brother part-time on the farm. Hilbert later started working at H.F. Roettiger Co. (currently, Cochrane Lumber Co.) for 21 years. His last, yet rewarding job was at St. Mary’s University in Winona in the food service department as the custodian.
Hilbert will be remembered for his witty sense of humor, watching a good baseball game or watching and feeding the birds.
The support and unconditional love that Hilbert exuded for his entire family will be the ultimate memory held in their hearts forever.
Hilbert will be sadly missed by his wife of the past 59 years, Colleen, of Cochrane; two daughters, Cheryl (Dennis) Sherman of Sparta, WI and Lori (spouse, Van Dierauer) Kaste of St. Anthony, MN; granddaughter, Lindsay (Jon) Birkey of Peoria, AZ and great grandchildren, Hannah May and Lily Rae Birkey; sister, Bernice (LaVerd) Kindschy of Whitehall and brother, Orvin Kaste of Pepin; also by other family and friends.
Besides his parents, Hilbert was preceded in death by his sisters, Lucille (Willard) Kennen and Wilma (Roy) Risch and brother, Lavern Kaste.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 12:00 PM at Talbot Family Funeral Home, Alma Chapel with Pastor Lisa Weaver officiating. Burial will follow at Buffalo City Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
