Herman J. Berger, age 85, of Eau Claire, formerly of Mondovi, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Dove Health and Rehabilitation Center, Eau Claire.
Herman was born on March 30, 1927, a son of Robert and Annabel (Weisinger) Berger.
On June 16, 1948 Herman was united in marriage to Laura Weiss, and together they raised four sons, Ron (Deb) of Maitland, FL, Larry (Cathy) of Roanoke IN, Greg (Yvonne) of La Crescent, MN and Lance (Nancy) of Wis. Dells.
He owned and operated Mondovi Dray Line for 19 years, worked for Mississippi Welders and Auto Supply for five years, Tru Gas for 2 years and Mondovi Public Schools for 17 years, retiring in 1993.
Herman joined the Mondovi fire department in 1952 as a fire fighter, then became assistant fire chief for eight years before being elected fire chief in 1967 until he retired from the department in 1989. In his free time, Herman enjoyed bowling, golfing and fishing.
Besides his wife of the past 64 years, Laura, and his four sons, Herman is survived by 12 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1great great grandchild; also by two brothers, Bob and Bill both of Mondovi; one sister Rosabel King of Altoona; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Arnold and Edward and brother in law Don King.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 9 at 1:00 PM at the Talbot Family Funeral Home, Mondovi Chapel with burial to follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. A time of visitation and support will be held on Saturday, from 11:00 AM until the hour of the service at the funeral home.
