Geraldine K. “Gerry” Scherer of Cochrane, age 86 passed away on October 17, 2015 at Gundersen Hospital with her husband by her side. She was born to Ben and Pauline Kukowski in Winona on May 26, 1929. Gerry attended St. Stanislaus grade school and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1947. She was united in marriage to John “Jack” Scherer on October 7, 1950 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Winona. Gerry was employed by the Northwest Bell Telephone Company. She later worked for the Fiberite Company as a phone operator, receptionist and then to a sales coordinator.
Gerry was an avid fisherman and enjoyed their move to the cottage. She helped Jack build their retirement home in 1986 in Buffalo City. After retiring in 1990, she continued her love of fishing, travel tours and visits to the casinos.
Gerry is survived by her husband of 65 years, Jack; son, Timmy (Kikko) Scherer; grandson, James J. Scherer; granddaughter, Maya; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Tommy J. Scherer and daughter, Terry J. Scherer.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at Talbot Family Funeral Home – Alma Chapel at 6:00 pm with a visitation to begin at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Gerry’s name to the charity of the donor’s choice.
