Geraldine Amidon

Geraldine Amidon, age 94 of Mondovi, WI passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Oakwood Villa Nursing Home in Altoona, WI. She was born on January 7, 1920 in Eau Claire to L. James and Rosette (McMahon) Bock. Geraldine attended and graduated from Eau Claire High School with the Class of 1937. Following one year at Eau Claire Teachers College, Geraldine enrolled at Anker School of Nursing in St. Paul where she proudly earned her nursing degree to become an R.N. On November 17, 1941, Geraldine was united in marriage to Robert Henry “Bob” Amidon at the rectory of St. Patrick’s parish in Eau Claire. Their union spanned 70 treasured years. Bob preceded Geraldine in death on October 12, 2012. Gerry was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Mondovi. Geraldine was employed at the former Buffalo Memorial Hospital in Mondovi and served on the Hospital Board of Directors. She also was an instructor at CVTC, teaching and training future CNA’s. Not only did Gerry work outside the home, she and her husband farmed for 44 years on their farm in Gilmanton. During those years on the farm, Gerry would love to spend time in her flower and vegetable gardens and was known by many for her green thumb. In later years Gerry and Bob fished in the summer in Canada and traveled south for the winter in their motor home. After retiring in 1985, Gerry and Bob moved to Mondovi. There were many good times spent with family and friends, both at home and as they traveled in their motor home. Gerry will be remembered for her love and devotion for her entire family and held a very special place in her heart for her two grandchildren. Gerry will be sadly missed by her son, Bill Amidon of Osseo; daughter, Jeanie (Dr. William Heth) Lubinsky of Eau Claire; her two grandchildren, Ryan Lubinsky and Jillian Heth; sister, Rosemary (Dean) Helwig of Eau Claire; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides her parents and husband Bob, Gerry was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Blum. A memorial Mass will be offered on Monday, June 2, at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Eric Linzmaier as Celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Gilmanton Cemetery. A memorial gathering will also at the church from 9:00 AM until the hour of the Mass. Talbot Family Funeral Homes, of Mondovi was honored to assist the family.
