Gerald Alfred Haney

Gerald A. Haney, age 82 of Fountain City, WI passed away with his family by his side at Bluff View Memory Care in Holmen, WI on October 7, 2024. Jerry was born on January 15, 1942 to Robert and Irene (Wicka) Haney in Winona, MN. He attended and was in the first graduating class of Cochrane Fountain City High School in 1960. After high school he worked at Peerless Chain in Winona before enlisting in the Navy. After his honorable discharge he worked at Watkins, then enrolled at Winona Technical College for their Heating and A/C Apprenticeship Program. He then worked for Quality Sheet Metal and Climate Metal. On September 23, 1967 he married the love of his life who fondly called “Toots”, Diane E. Schaefer at St. Stanislaus Church in Winona. To this union their daughter Tanya was born. In 1976 Jerry entered into a partnership with his brother Francis and formed Haney’s Heating and A/C in Fountain City until its closing in 2004. He later worked part-time for TJ Lipinski and Mike Nuzum. Jerry loved vegetable gardening, especially tomatoes, planting at times over a hundred plants! Other pastimes included playing horseshoes and taking rides in the country. Earlier years, he enjoyed deer hunting, duck hunting and fishing with his dad. Jerry will be forever in the hearts of his wife of 57 years, Diane, his daughter Tanya (Gerald) Sobotta, grandson Josh, brothers; Francis (Doris), Ronald (Charlotte), Leslie (Lorraine), sisters; Bonnie Thrune, Janice Voss, sister-in-law; Mary Haney, brother-in-law; Roger (Rachel) Schaefer, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert and brother in-law Eugene Thrune. A Mass of Christian burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Fountain City on Friday October 18 at 12:00 PM. A memorial gathering will be starting at 10:00 AM until the time of Mass.
