Gary Dean Risen, age 67, of Mondovi, passed away on Wednesday, April 11 at Mayo Health Systems, Luther Campus with his loving and devoted family at his side after a battle with cancer.
Gary was born on March 2, 1945 in Mondovi a son of Stella Oium and the late William Risen.
Gary honorably served our country as a member of the United States Navy, enlisting on March 16, 1962 until his honorable discharge on January 18, 1965.
Gary married Sandra Anderson. To this union two children were born. They later divorced.
On April 11, 1975 Gary was united in marriage to Tina Berger in Iowa. To this union, one daughter was born.
Gary worked at several different jobs during his time, most notably the City of Mondovi as the Superintendent of the water and sewer department until his retirement. After retirement Gary stayed active at different employers, recently, Liberty Exteriors and before his illness, Marten Transport.
He served on the Buffalo County Board for several years.
Gary enjoyed many different activities during his life, especially four wheeling, hunting and fishing, traveling up north to the cabin. He will be mostly remembered for his love of playing cards and taking his grandchildren hunting. Gary absolutely loved his precious grandchildren and would spend as much time as he could with them.
Gary is survived by his wife, Tina of Mondovi; three children, Lisa (Scott) Kees of Mondovi, Kirk (April) Risen of Hamilton, OH, Angie (Jason Odegard) Risen of Mondovi; nine grandchildren, Paige, Cassandra, Garrett and Clay Kees; Bryanne, Brooklynn and Cooper Risen; Hailee and Brody; his mother, Stella Risen of Eau Claire; sisters, Sheila Moyer of Eau Claire and Deb Laguban of Mondovi; three brothers, Duane Risen of St. James, MN, Mike (Barb) Risen of Cleghorn, WI and Randy (Anne) Risen of Eau Claire; half sister, Dianne Jeurissen of Mora, MN; also by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his father William Risen.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 15 at 4:00 PM at the Poeschel-Talbot funeral home, Mondovi with the Rev. Rolf Morck, pastor of Central Lutheran Church, officiating.
