Eugene Semingson

Eugene D. Semingson, age 80, of Strum, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 31, 2014 at his home while surrounded by his family. He was born on July 21, 1933 in Eleva at the home of his parents, Odin and Ruth (Peterson) Semingson. Gene attended Eleva-Strum High School graduating with the class of 1952. Two years later, Gene enlisted and served his country as a member of the United States Army where he spent most of his service time in Germany. Gene was honorably discharged in 1956. On July 25, 1959, Eugene was united in marriage to Inez Christianson at the Eleva Lutheran Church. To this union, three children were born. Gene was employed for around 28 years at Armour Food Co. in Eau Claire. Following his employment at Armour Food, Gene spent time as a sales representative at Engen’s Auto. He was the owner operator of E & H Auto in Independence. He also spent time working at Bill’s auto sales in Hallie and East Side Auto Sales in Osseo. Gene was a longtime, faithful member of Eleva Lutheran Church. Gene was a dedicated community member, giving his time to many different civic organizations. Most notably are the Trempealeau County associated Rod & Gun Clubs, Buffalo River Masonic Lodge 252, Scottish Rite Valley of Eau Claire, the Zor Shrine and Mahara Shrine, served on the Eleva-Strum School Board. Gene was an active and devoted member of the Hopland-Moen American Legion Post 459 of Eleva, Amvets Post #1in Pleasantville and the Alton Johnson VFW post 6550 of Strum where he served as post commander for 13 years and was proud to have earned 2 all state commander white hats. He loved hunting, fishing and camping, especially in Buffalo City along the Mississippi River. Gene was an avid softball player. He played in Eleva and in Eau Claire and played on the Sterling Pulp and Paper team and earned the trophy for the homerun champion. Gene loved to travel, specifically with his wife Inez to Florida. Gene will be sadly missed by his wife of 54 years, Inez; his sons Joe (significant other, Renee Maier) and Jim “Bim” (Fiancée, Melissa Austin) all of Strum; grandchildren, Logan (special friend, Kaitlin Des Forge) Semingson; Denise (Tom) Marsolek; Brian (special friend, Jill Robinson) Long; great grandchildren, Brett Long, Danica Jo Long, CallieRae Long and Aubree Marsolek; siblings, Ronald (Jane) Semingson of Eleva; Lois (Jim) Anderson of Eleva; Donna Peterson and Karen Kees both of Mondovi and Roxie (Rev. Robert) Berg of Chetek; sisters in law, Betty (Tom) Wehner of Bella Vista, AR and Shirley (Jim) Alsip of Burnsville, MN; also by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his son, Randy; brothers in law Duane Peterson and Richard Kees and sister and brother in law, Alice and Jerry Plomedahl. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 7 at 11:00 AM at Eleva Lutheran Church with Pastor Kermit Solem officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will follow at Eleva Cemetery. A time of visitation and support will be held on Sunday, April 6 at 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a Masonic Service at 7:00 PM and again on Monday at 10:00 AM until the hour of the service all at the church.
