Emil C. Lund, age 91, of rural Mondovi, died peacefully on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Grace Lutheran River Pines Home in Eau Claire. He was born in Mondovi on June 12, 1927 to Charley and Marie (Kilde) Lund. Emil graduated from Mondovi High School in 1947.
Emil is a veteran of the Korean War serving his county from July 1951 until his honorable discharge in July 1953.
Upon completion of his military service, Emil worked at Presto in Eau Claire and lived on the family farm. He lived the rest of his life on the farm with his brother Carl and family. He worked on the farm and was a favorite of the Lund dogs and later the Lund goats. His purchase of a John Deere Gator allowed him to continue to travel across the farm checking on crops and operations through his later years.
He and his nephew Doug Lund travelled extensively across the United States. He also travelled with his nieces, Kay and Kris, to Norway, the Lund homeland. Emil was an avid reader who literally read through an entire set of encyclopedias and enjoyed discussing odd entries.
To the very end, he was engaged in the activities of his nieces and nephews and even more so, his great nieces and nephews. His interest in family and farm activities, reading and stereotypical Norwegian bachelor stubbornness kept him going into his 90s.
Emil is survived by one sister, Laura Foiles of Cadott, WI, thirteen nieces and nephews, and many great nieces and nephews.
Emil was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Eda Lund, Annie Blomquist and Lela Urness; and one brother, Carl Lund.
