Eleanor M. Plank, age 90 of Alma WI died Thursday August 16, 2012 at St. Michael’s Assisted Living in Fountain City, WI. She was born in Winona, MN on November 28, 1921 to Herman and Julia (Schmitt) Vick. She married Delmar W. Plank on June 5, 1941 in Winona. Eleanor and Delmar moved to Idaho to pursue Delmar’s teaching career, then on to Knapp, WI. The depression era set in and convinced them to go back to what they grew up with, farming in the Waumandee area. They raised dairy cows, pigs, beef cattle, and raised chickens, and sold eggs. They had many happy memories, taking a family trip to Arkansas, and trips to Alaska, Canada, and Washington DC together. She was a long time member of Zion Lutheran Church in Cream. Eleanor enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening on their farm. Her children and grandchildren always remembered picking wild blackberries in the woods with her. Eleanor’s pride was to create plastic canvas needlework items, from churches that held bibles to Easter baskets, and Christmas decorations. She also knitted EVERONE slippers! Eleanor will be greatly missed by her children Delmar (Sandra) Plank of Alma, WI, and Mary Lou (Dennis) Bjorge of Grafton, WI. Her grandchildren Ryan (Kim) and Eric (Krista) Pearson, Travis (Machalle) Plank, and CaraLee (Gary) Wiersgalla, Tracey (John) Macsurak and Shelley Unsworth and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her daughter Diane Pearson, her brothers Robert and Arnold Vick and granddaughter Jenelle Plank. Eleanor’s family would like to extend a special thank you to all who cared for her at St. Michaels Assisted Living. A visitation will be at Talbot Family Funeral Homes, Alma on Sunday August 19 at 4 – 6pm and again one hour prior to her funeral service at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Fountain City on Monday August 20 at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Cream, WI. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.talbotfuneralhomes.com.
