Douglas A. "Doug" Smith, age 61 of Mondovi passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at Sacred Heart Hospital, Eau Claire. He was born on July 22, 1956, in Clinton, IA, the son of Leonard and Betty (Aryes) Smith. Doug served in the U.S. Navy. He married Cathy Austin on November 25, 1994 and they were blessed to share 28 years together. Doug worked at Marten Transport as a mechanic. He loved woodworking and the crisp smell of Cedar. He was a handyman around the house and took pride in fixing things that needed repair. At first glance, Doug may have seemed as though he had a rough exterior when in actuality, he was very soft hearted and generous. Doug was a hard worker and had a heart of gold. Most recently, what kept Doug going during the trying periods of his illness was spending time with the light of his life, his granddaughter.
Doug will be sadly missed by his wife, Cathy; daughters, Jenny Hendrix and Maria; granddaughter, Leah Turner; brothers, Kenny, Rick and Jim; nieces and nephews; other relatives and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kenyen and his parents.
A celebration of Doug's life for family and friends to share memories and stories will be held at the Forrest-Gundersen-Klevgard American Legion hall in Gilmanton on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family.
