Donald E. Johnston

Donald E. Johnston, age 90 of Buffalo City, WI passed away peacefully on September 8, 2014. He was born on November 10, 1923 in Eau Claire, WI. Don married Katherine Kaentz on December 31, 1947, and they were blessed with two children. He proudly served his country in WWII in the Army Air Corps. Don will be remembered for his many stories, his dry but funny sense of humor, and his quiet, but very wise way of living life. All who knew him will remember him as a nice guy. Don had a love of the outdoors with fishing and hunting. He held many jobs throughout his life, such as an operator of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lock and Dam 4, a pipefitter, worked at La Crosse Mill, built houses, and did beautiful woodworking. He took pride in taking care of himself, with a strong belief in exercise and eating healthy with oatmeal and a banana every morning. Don will be forever in the hearts of his children Joel (Sandra) Johnston, and Elizabeth (Jeffery) Schwab, his sisters Pat Welsch, and Eileen Bridges, and several grand and great grandchildren. Preceding Don in death was his wife Kate, and his sisters Doris, and Nona. A private family memorial service was held. Talbot Family Funeral Homes-Scenic Rivers Cremation Center assisted the family.
