David M. Schwanke, age 65 of Cochrane passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Gundersen Medical Center. He was born February 16, 1951 in Winona, MN, the son of Myron and Loretta (Guetlzow) Schwanke. David graduated from Cochrance-Fountain City High School in 1969. He continued his education at Eau Claire Technical College and was a barber and hairstylist by trade. David was an excellent stylist and won many awards. He loved his worked and was personable with everyone that walked through his door. David was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Cochrane. He enjoyed skiing, fishing, camping and the time spent on Lake Superior. David never went anywhere without his schnauzer by his side. David’s sense of humor and positive disposition will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his significant other, Susan Squires of Winona, MN; sister, Etta Van DeBrake of St. Croix Falls, WI; niece, Vicky (Dale) Schramm; nephew, Edward (Melody) Van DeBrake; 4 great-nieces, Angel Galvan, Melissa Benjamin, Christine and Amy Van DeBrake; other relatives; beloved dog, Zada and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Laverne Van DeBrake.
A funeral service will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, Cochrane on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 11:00 am with Pastor Mark Wilde officiating. A visitation will be held at church from 9:00 am until the time of service. Entombment will be held at Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pastor Mark Wilde of Christ Lutheran Church, Cochrane for his numerous visits and prayers.
