David N. Niccum, age 72 of the Town of Waumandee, WI passed away on Thursday October 02, 2014 at his home.
Dave was born July 31, 1942 in St. Croix County, to Nolen and Eleanore (Stevenson) Niccum. He graduated from Baldwin High School in 1960 and went on to get a Vocational Technical Education degree in Industrial Arts. He used that education to work in construction and ended his career of forty-two years with Madsen-Johnson Construction of Hudson, WI as a superintendent. He was a proud member of Wisconsin Carpenters Union.
On June 6, 1987 he married Patricia Smieja in Cochrane. Together they spent about six months in Wisconsin and six months in Texas. “When the first frost comes along; we’re out of here.”he often would say. He loved spending time playing billiards and pellet gun shooting. He built “The Range” in Texas for pellet shooting and also became in charge of the pool leagues he was in. He enjoyed horses, training them, harness pulling events and riding them. He was an enthusiast about farming and would help others with farm help as well as purchasing old tractors and refurbishing them. Patricia and Dave loved to play cards almost every evening.
David will be forever in the hearts of his wife, Patricia of Cochrane; children Kris (Bill) Lecuyer of Stillwater, MN, Susie (Larry) Anderson of Lakeland, MN, Barbara (Rob) Schroeder of Hudson, Brent (Julie) Niccum of Hudson, D.J. (Melissa) Niccum of La Crescent, MN, Carol (David) Rumpel of Arcadia, James (Kathryn) Dehnke of Buffalo, MN, John (Dee Dee) Dehnke of Trempealeau and Jerry (Laura) Dehnke of Clive, IA; many grandchildren; several great grandchildren; brothers, Robert (Jeannie) Niccum of Baldwin and Jim (Judy) Niccum of Couderay; sister Sharon (Stu) Carlson of Titusville, FL, brother in law Charles Speaks of Woodbury, MN; many nieces, nephews, other relative and friends. Dave was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Nancy Niccum-Speaks.
A memorial service and celebration of David’s life will take place at Talbot Family Funeral Home in Alma, WI on Saturday October 11, at 10:30 AM. A memorial gathering will be also at the funeral home on Friday, October 10 at 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and one half hour prior to the service.
